She wants to make up for the death of a young boy that she could have prevented but didn't. There is a prison of guilt built up inside of her because of the way she worked with the government as a reporter. Laura is sent to Aquila, where no one can escape and a monsoon floods the prison every year, killing everyone. She also learns that one of the guards is the young boy's killer. Avenge the death of the boy and get over her guilt: This is her chance. The big cell where she's been put has a surprise for her: another prisoner, Joseph, has been working to get out of Aquila before the next flood comes. This is how he can get stones off the prison ceiling, but he can't do it alone. he must get his new cellmate to give up murder and choose to live with him and get out of the prison so he can.
