A Girl on the Shore
Middle schoolers Keisuke Isobe and Koume Satou lead relatively mundane lives in the coastal village where they live because there is very little activity there. But when Koume's crush turns out to be a heartbreaker, their circumstance takes a turn for the extraordinary. Both of them seek solace in one another in order to fill the emotional gaps that exist in their lives, and she begins a relationship with Keisuke, whom she had previously rejected, on the basis that it will have "no strings attached." When true feelings begin to grow and the implications of their connection begin to take a toll on those around them and themselves, "friends with benefits" becomes more problematic. The visual novel Umibe no Onnanoko is an unflinching examination of love, relationships, and the psychological toll that will be exacted as a direct consequence of a choice to be made by two adolescents.
