Richard, an adolescent sparrow raised by storks after being orphaned at birth, feels that he is one of them. However, when it is time to migrate to Africa, his stork family is obliged to reveal his true identity and abandon him in the forest, as he is not a migratory bird and would not survive the trek. Richard travels south on his own, determined to show he is a stork. Only with the assistance of Olga, a quirky owl with an imaginary buddy, and Kiki, a narcissistic, disco-singing parakeet, does he have a chance of achieving his goal and learning to love himself.
