Beginning with a shot of a tour bus warming its engine in a deserted parking lot, this melancholy, personal portrait of music great Levon Helm conjures the spirit of a lifetime spent on the road. Helm, a founding member of The Band, is featured in Jacob Hatley's unusually intimate documentary as he composes his first studio record in 25 years at his Woodstock home. The ultimate survivor, he has conquered drugs, poverty, the bitter breakup of The Band, and throat cancer-yet, as the wistful title suggests, he was never in it for his health.
