A vending machine theft attempted by small-time thief and drug addict Bobbie (Vincent Kartheiser) goes horribly wrong, and his buddies contact street-smart thief and part-time drug addict Mel (James Woods) for assistance. Mel meets Bobbie and his girlfriend Rosie (Natasha Gregson Wagner), enticing them to accompany him and his long-suffering girlfriend Sid (Melanie Griffith) on a drug robbery that will set them up for life. Although the robbery appears to be straightforward, the subsequent sale of the drugs fails spectacularly, and Mel and Bobbie are shot. The four seek sanctuary with the Reverend, who charges them half of their heist earnings to look after them. Mel leads the team in a disastrous, ill-advised jewellery robbery in a desperate attempt to recoup their losses, and they become entangled in a web of violence that quickly escalates out of control.
