When his companion is eliminated, hard Irish investigator Eddie Ryan (Robert Duvall) vows to retaliate the death, whatever the cost. As he starts deciphering hints, his actions comes to be so outrageous that he's required to turn in his badge, but the experience just emboldens him. Ryan eventually finds out that his companion was caught up in a Puerto Rican gun-running scheme masterminded by a crook named Sugary food Willie (Henry Darrow), who intends to foment revolutionary war.
