In order to create CR or Cosmic Rescue, all of the insurance companies in the world joined forces. It is the responsibility of CR to rescue those injured in interstellar accidents and remove any hazardous flying debris from earlier collisions that poses a threat to other spacecraft. CR Shift Division 89's captain is Nanjou Satoshi. They spend their days clearing rubbish, a very trivial task, with the help of Sawada Azuma, the hot-headed rookie, and Eguchi Ryo, his dependable mechanic. Then, one day, Azuma intercepts a young girl's emergency beacon. As the crew of the #89 races to the scene, the spacecraft vanishes from their radar, and they soon discover that CR has released them.
