Disenchanted Father Lankester Merrin devotes his talents to assisting with an archaeological dig in Kenya's northern region, haunted by awful actions he was compelled to partake in by the Nazis. The group discovers a church that predates Christian missions in the area, but weird events begin to occur as a result of the discovery, including bodily changes in a young, crippled kid, whom Merrin suspects is possessed by a demon.
