Elevator to the Gallows
The well-known director Louis Malle's first feature-length picture is an intriguing and contemporary take on the traditional film noir concept of lovers hatching a scheme to kill the husband and make it appear as though they committed suicide (reminiscent of The Postman Always Rings Twice). As Jeanne Moreau takes her young boyfriend down a path that can only end in tragedy for both of them, she delivers a stunning performance that is both sadistic and naive at the same time.
