Epidemic
It's the second installment of Trier's Europa trilogy, which is a collection of his films. The next two films in the trilogy are The Element of Crime (1984) and Europa Reports (1986), both of which are set in Europe (1991). The film, which was co-written by Niels Vrsel, focuses on the process of screenwriting. Vrsel and von Trier portray themselves as they scramble to put together a story for a producer at the last minute. In between sequences from the film they are writing, in which von Trier portrays a renegade doctor trying to cure a modern-day disease, there are scenes from this story.
