Two short movies that show different parts of World War II. First, "Scherzo alla polacca," is about a clever son who wants to keep his skin. He ends up becoming a hero and finding a reason to fight. The Warsaw uprising scares him, so at first he doesn't want to do underground training. In the world that's been turned into a crazy place, his drunkenness, disregard for safety, and cowardice when he's sober come across as something that makes sense. Because he wants to live, his desire for a heroic death isn't very good. Ostinato lugubre is the second book in the series. It tells the story of a man who can't stand to be kept in prison and the stupidity of professional soldiers who are trying to keep up the military traditions there.
