This Chinese remake of Giuseppe Tornatore's (Cinema Paradiso) Everybody's Fine and its American counterpart starring Robert De Niro, directed by noted filmmaker Zhang Meng (The Piano in a Factory), is an emotionally moving drama. Following a widower's visits to his four adult children, each of whom leads a completely different life in one of four rapidly changing Chinese towns, the story chronicles the widower's journey through these locations. It provides an intimate look at the problems of the younger generation in a society that is shifting from a collective past to a materialist present.
