18th century Jonathan Green, a cartographer, sets off on a research journey from Europe to the East. He arrives in a little village lost in impassable woods after passing through Transylvania and crossing the Carpathian Mountains. The villagers, having created a deep moat to protect themselves from the rest of the world, share a mistaken idea that they can preserve themselves from evil, failing to recognize that evil has formed its nest in their souls and is waiting for an opportunity to erupt upon the world.
