Despite the obvious differences between Siberia and Tokyo, a booming model business unites these far-flung places. GIRL MODEL follows two protagonists in this industry: Ashley, a deeply conflicted model scout who scours the Siberian countryside looking for new faces to send to the Japanese market, and one of her discoveries, Nadya, a thirteen-year-old plucked from the Siberian countryside and dropped into the heart of Tokyo with promises of a lucrative career. The two rarely meet again after Ashley's initial discovery of Nadya, yet their stories are inexorably linked. As Nadya's optimism about rescuing her family from financial issues develops, it contrasts with Ashley's more pessimistic view of the industry's damaging influence.
