Jim and his daughter Veronica, a high-school music teacher, try to piece together their convoluted pasts and secrets. Jim's daughter is wrongly accused of misusing her position of control over 17-year-old Clive when a hoax goes horribly wrong. Veronica is sure, however, that she is deserving of punishment, but for much earlier offenses. Jim's misery begins to affect his profession as a food inspector, as he is confused and frustrated by Veronica's intransigence. He has a lot of authority over small, family-run eateries, and he's not afraid to use it.
