Jesse is about to turn 15 years old, and the only present she wants is a horse. Without Jesse's knowledge, her mother Brandy is undergoing treatment for cancer, which forces Jesse's father to navigate a maze of unanticipated challenges. He enrolls Jesse in summer camp, but when summer camp is canceled, he arranges for her to spend the summer with her estranged grandfather, an elderly horse trainer named Gauff. The obstacles of teen bargaining present themselves to Gauff, who is still reeling from the loss of a special horse named Grace. As a result, Gauff has to swallow his pride and ask for forgiveness from his daughter Brandy.
