Henri Boulanger is fired from his job after fifteen years of service. In shock, he makes an attempt on his own life, but is unable to complete it. He then hires a contract assassin in a sleazy pub to murder him at an unknown time in the future. Then he meets and falls in love with Margaret, a flower seller, which causes Henri to realize that his life does have some significance after all.
