Sisters Ayia and Mirra live in a small European village when it is hit by an unexplained disease that kills many people. Following the loss of their mother, the younger sister is struck down with a serious illness. Ayia turns to a family friend and parish priest, Father Herman, after realizing that traditional medicine will do little to improve her sister's illness. This man's library contains works that defy standard religious categorization. She learns that the only way to save her sister is to gain access to Mirra's diseased subconscious mind and find the underlying source of her illness. Ayia is prepared to face the monsters that dwell in her subconscious mind by undergoing this frightening ceremony.
