Marta is discovered in an ambulatory, where she is assigned per case. After a series of amusing encounters (a venerable parlantina arrives from Napoli; a mature zia and her failed love; a teen-aged American who wants to force him to join him in his evangelistic visits; a meeting with Riccardino, a teen-aged boy who is frustrated by his oppressive mother; a father who expects the miracle of a resurrected hand; etc.) Gaetano decides to stay in Firenze and play the role of father to Marta's child, despite the fact that the ragazza does not want to reveal her father's name.
