Lenz is a daydreamer who spends much of his time daydreaming. Charming, visionary, and utterly incapable of making decisions, as is proper for a thirty-year-old in Berlin. Lenz wakes up next to Ira, absolutely insane, after a wild night of partying. Lenz has fallen head over heels in love. Ira is included. The summer of love begins with frolicking through Berlin's nights, beers by the canal, and discussions about sex and childhood. It's all extremely lovely. Until Ira raises the crucial question: "Do you want to have children?" When things get tricky, it's time for Lenz to do what he does best. He disappears. He stumbles through the summer without an anchor and has to make do with the heroes of his daydreams, who constantly questioning him about his emotions. Meanwhile, his friend Kenn embraces Lenz with adoration and bemusement. When fall arrives, Ira confronts Lenz, forcing him to confront the big "whatever."
