Despite her young age, Maya is a fireball of energy who refuses to conform to the hive's regulations. This includes not putting your trust in the hornets who live beyond the meadow. When the Royal Jelly is stolen, the hornets are accused, and Maya is suspected of being a co-conspirator in the theft. With the exception of Willy, her good-natured and best friend, no one thinks that she is the innocent victim, and no one will stand by her except for her. In the wake of a lengthy and dramatic voyage to the hornets' hive, Maya and Willy quickly uncover the true perpetrator, and the two friends are able to form bonds with the other inhabitants of the opulent meadow.
