New York-based Ann and David Smith are a happily married couple with a young child. Ann inquires of David one morning, asking if he would marry her again if he had to do it all over again. He responds, to to her surprise, that he would not. Later that day, they both discover that, due to a hitch that occurred during their marriage three years earlier, they are not legally wedded to each other after all. Ann does not inform David of this, and she believes that he would remarry her that evening after taking her out to a romantic supper. When this does not occur, she becomes enraged and throws David out of their home.
