After a sad event occurs at a Fourth of July celebration, Becca, Adam, and their 5-year-old daughter Acie appear to be the perfect family until their father is killed. Becky determines that she must leave the family property and all of its memories since she is suffering from grief. In order to visit her friend June from school, she leaves Acie in the care of her grandfather Ben. June, with the best of intentions, provides Becky with a great deal of distraction from her family life. Becky begins to drink and engage in other self-destructive behaviors as a result of her frustration with God and loss of faith. Afterwards, once Becky is incarcerated, Ben threatens to detain Acie until Becky gets her life back on track. Becky has a chance encounter with a stranger in a bus station that provides her with the tools she needs to reclaim her faith and reconcile with her family.
