In the nineteenth century, the Prince Regent of the Qing Dynasty issues an order that all members of the Meng clan be summarily executed. The leader promises his family that they will exact revenge on those responsible for this travesty of justice before he is beheaded. A young Meng kid named Erkui, who is just five years old, courageously sings an aria while he waits to die. Both the opera great Master Yu and his student Guan Yilong, who is just seven years old, are moved by the strength and purity of his voice. The boy is saved by Master Yu, and the two abandoned children grow up to be brothers. Years later, Master Yu defeats his bitter adversary Master Yue in a duel and emerges victorious, but the golden plaque bearing the inscription "The Mightiest Warrior" that he had won from the Prince Regent is now gone. After suffering a defeat on the stage, Master Yu was exiled to the hamlet, where he now spends his time instructing the two brothers.
