O (2001)
This controversial modern-day version of Shakespeare's classic, "Othello," combines hot young stars, a hip, driving soundtrack, and a provocative story of jealousy and betrayal. Odin James (Mekhi Phifer) is the school's star basketball player and future NBA hopeful. Despite being the only black student at the prestigious Palmetto Grove Academy, he is adored by everyone, including the team's coach (Martin Sheen) and the Dean's lovely daughter, Desi (Julia Stiles). Hugo (Josh Hartnett), the coach's son, is Odin's troubled friend who is deeply resentful of his father's preference for Odin on and off the court. Hugo's devious plan to sow the seed of distrust between O and Desi sets in motion a disturbing chain of events that erupts into a firestorm of breathtaking intensity.
