Sosuke, 5, lives on an oceanside cliff with his mother Lisa. On the seashore, he finds a lovely goldfish confined in a bottle and names her Ponyo. But she's no normal goldfish. Ponyo, the daughter of a wizard and a sea goddess, utilizes her father's magic to turn into a young girl. She falls in love with Sosuke, but her sorcery causes a terrible imbalance in the world. As the moon approaches the earth and Ponyo's father sends the ocean's waves to locate her, the two children start on an adventure to preserve the world and fulfill Ponyo's ambition of becoming human.
