Jackie Moon is the owner, promoter, head coach, and leading player for the American Basketball Association's Flint Michigan Tropics (ABA). The National Basketball Association (NBA) wants to join with the ABA's finest teams at the end of the 1976 season, before the ABA disbands. Only the top four teams will advance, with the worst teams being eliminated. The Tropics are the poorest club in the league, and if they want to make it to the NBA, Jackie Moon must motivate his team to start winning. Jackie Moon is not the basketball coach and star player he believes he is. To save his club from oblivion and leave his mark on the city, Jackie Moon must motivate his team to finish fourth in the playoffs.
