Both the Bismarck and her sister ship, the Tirpitz, were the most powerful battleships ever built during World War II's European theater. In order to prevent Bismarck from escaping into the convoy lanes and causing catastrophic damage to the cargo shipping industry, which was the lifeblood of the British Isles, the British Navy must locate and destroy the ship.
