In exchange for having his $27,000 credit card debt paid off, struggling actor John Person offers to drive a blue suitcase from Los Angeles to the remote town of Baker, California, and give it over to a mysterious cowboy. John cannot locate the cowboy upon his arrival, but he is given a frightening head-shaped parcel to hold onto. While John waits, he becomes close to Ruthie, whose crazy boyfriend Randy repeatedly threatens to kill him.
