Vera Parks, an overbearing and demanding Broadway director, is sacked from yet another job, forcing her to take a position directing a tiny town Christmas pageant in upstate New York. Vera attempts to pull out of the production, stunned at how simple it is, but is persuaded by some of the locals to give their community a chance. Vera is surprised to see that the small town's warmth and charm grow on her, and she even enjoys leading the pageant. Vera is incensed when she learns that her ex fiancé Jack recommended her for the job.
