Alexandre Dumas's classic novel is adapted for television. Edmond Dantes is wrongly accused by those jealous of his money and sentenced to life in the renowned Chateau d'If island prison. He encounters Abbe Faria, a fellow prisoner whom everyone believes is insane, while he is imprisoned. The Abbe informs Edmond of a wonderful treasure buried away on a tiny island, the location of which is only known to him. The elderly Abbe dies after many years in prison, and Edmond flees disguised as the corpse. Now that Edmond is free, he must locate the treasure the Abbe mentioned, in order to utilize his newly acquired fortune to exact revenge on those who have mistreated him.
