In Lille, two impoverished young ladies with limited prospects form a friendship. Isa moves in with Marie, who is house-sitting for a mother and child in a coma following a car accident and hospitalization. Isa is gregarious and inexperienced, and she wishes to move south to warmer climates. Typically, Marie is either angry or aloof. Then, as Isa begins to see the child in whose apartment they reside by traveling to the hospital to read to her, Marie begins to develop a crush on a wealthy youth. Marie first keeps him at distance, but she eventually follows him and begins to believe he is her life partner. When Isa warns Marie, their friendship disintegrates. How will Marie cope with the unavoidable? And where will they go after they lose the apartment?
