During World War II, a troop of touring players perform a rendition of Shakespeare's King Lear at a small English rural theatre on a fateful night. Despite the fact that bombs are dropping, sirens are blaring, and the curtain will be raised in an hour, the actor/manager Sir, who is playing King Lear, is nowhere to be seen.
