In 140 AD, twenty years after the Ninth Legion went missing in the mountains of Scotland for no known reason, a young centurion named Marcus Aquila (Tatum) comes from Rome to solve the mystery and clear the name of his father, who was the Ninth Legion's commander. With only his British slave Esca (Bell) for company, Marcus crosses Hadrian's Wall and heads into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia. He wants to face the wild tribes there, make peace with his father's memory, and find the Eagle of the Ninth, the golden symbol of the lost legion.
