The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope, and Science is a documentary about a unique medical facility known as a "Medical Mecca," the "Supreme Court of Medicine," and the "place for hope where there is no hope." After a terrible storm struck rural Minnesota in 1883, the Sisters of Saint Francis teamed up with a country doctor named William Worrall Mayo to form the Mayo Clinic. It has since grown into an organization that annually treats over a million patients from all 50 states and 150 countries. Dr. Mayo taught his sons Will and Charlie a basic philosophy: "the needs of the patient come first." They would not cure diseases, but rather people. In a world where healthcare is often fragmented among specialized specialties, the Mayo Clinic takes a multi-specialty, team-based approach that has fostered a culture of collaboration since its inception.
