After getting caught with another female in the back seat of a car on prom night in1993, Cameron, then a teenager, was sent to a gay conversion therapy center as punishment. Repentance for "same sex attraction" is the foundation upon which the center that is directed by the rigorous and stringent Dr. Lydia Marsh and her brother, Reverend Rick, is constructed. In the face of hostility and denial, Cameron encounters a group of fellow sinners. Among them are Jane, an amputee stoner, and Adam, a Lakota Two-Spirit, who is her companion. Also present is a group of people who call themselves "the gang." In their struggle to stay alive, this improbable collection of adolescents has come together to establish a family.
