2 educators, man-hungry Doris and restrained Marian, go to the Yorkshire moors a year after good friend Evelyn vanished there. On a stormy evening, they take haven in the separated cottage of Stephen, single pianist shell-shocked in the Spanish Civil War. Doris gets away as quickly as the flood subsides; but Marian's uncertainties about Evelyn's fate, in conflict with her growing love for Stephen, timely her to remain on amongst the misty bogs.
