The Only examines the greatest victories and darkest defeats in the incredible life of United States Soccer Hall of Fame goalkeeper Briana Scurry. The documentary explores the inspirational splendor and very dark corners of a Hall of Fame goalie who was the only Black starting and openly gay athlete. While celebrating the historic legacy of Scurry's career, which included two Olympic gold medals and a penalty save that helped the United States win the 1999 Women's World Cup, the film also tells the story of how she overcame racism and homophobia at the time of her greatest triumphs, only to be on the brink of suicide after a career-ending concussion.
