In the time of Christ, Marcellus is a tribune. He is in charge of the crew that has been tasked with executing Jesus. After the crucifixion, he manages to win Jesus' homemade robe. Following the incident, he is plagued by nightmares and delusions. He travels to Palestine in order to try and discover as much as he can about the man he murdered, hoping to find a way to live with what he has done while remaining adamantly opposed to Christianity.
