The Story of Qiu Ju

The Story of Qiu Ju is a 1992 Chinese comedy-drama movie. Zhang Yimou directed the movie, and as in many of his other movies, Gong Li plays the lead role. The screenplay is based on Chen Yuanbin's novella The Wan Family's Lawsuit. The movie tells the story of a Chinese peasant woman named Qiu Ju who lives in a rural area. When her husband is kicked in the groin by the village head, Qiu Ju goes to a nearby town and then a big city to deal with the bureaucrats and get justice.
