The 43-year-old Alex has little obligations. He's a tow truck driver for his mother Antoinette's auto repair shop, which she runs with an iron grip. Despite her best efforts, Alex has repeatedly shown that he is not the right person to run the company. His car breaks down one day, and so he helps her out and ends up staying the night at her apartment. Alex wakes up the next morning to find that she has vanished, leaving him to raise three children on his own!
