Matt Cruse's The Watcher Self is an unsettling psychosexual chiller about one woman's descent into hell, written and directed by him. Cora (Karen French) wakes up in the middle of the night dealing with the fallout from a nightmare. In order to maintain a normal routine, she engages in a series of emotionally detached encounters and develops a perplexing psychological connection with the strange and elusive Van (Julian Shaw). Cora becomes increasingly dislocated from her surroundings as echoes from her past threaten to derail her tenuous mental state. Is she insane, or is something else going on? The Watcher Self is about what remains after the layers of sanity are gradually removed... and what may or may not be true.
