Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza who has spent the majority of his life in prison, is released after serving a 13-year sentence for murder. He applies for a TV show in the hopes of finding his long-lost mother, from whom he was separated as a child, and meets Tsunoda, a young TV director. Meanwhile, he struggles to find a suitable job and integrate into society. His impulsive, obstinate nature, as well as his deeply held beliefs, cause friction in his relationships with Tsunoda and those who wish to assist him.
