True tale. In reality, on February 5, 1941, the S/S Politician sank during WWII. It sank in severe weather off Eriskay, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, two days after leaving Liverpool bound for Jamaica. Locals grabbed as many bottles as they could before the authorities arrived, and bottles are still recovered every other year in the sand or the sea.
