Jerry Lewis portrays Norman Phiffer, a proud man living a modest life who is unaware that his girlfriend, Barbara, is the heir apparent to the Tuttle Department Store dynasty. Mrs. Tuttle, Barbara's mother, is determined to separate the lovers and hires Norman in order to humiliate him sufficiently that Barbara will abandon him. Is she going to ruin their romance, or is he going to damage her business?
