The show was a big hit, and it always got a lot of viewers. The first series, on the other hand, was meant to be a summer filler, but it got up to 16.5 million viewers, and in the years that followed, it never got below 12 million at its peak. Most of the time, the show aired on Saturday early evening. Even though the last Christmas special was watched by 12.5 million people, an eleventh series was not ordered in 1989. In an interview in 1996, Ted Rogers said that "The people from Oxbridge ended up running TV, even though they didn't really want to. It wasn't up to their standards.
