Nobuhiro Watsuki, well known for his work on the manga series Rurouni Kenshin, is the series' author and illustrator for the Buso Renkin manga. Nobuhiro's wife, Kaoru Kurosaki, contributes to the series' writing on occasion. From June 2003 through June 2005, the shonen magazine Weekly Shonen Jump published a serialization of Buso Renkin. The story was concluded after 80 chapters. Shueisha compiled the separate chapters into ten tankbon volumes, which were issued between January 5, 2004, and April 4, 2006. These volumes were available starting on January 5, 2004. Viz Media has purchased the license to publish the anime series in the North American market. The original manga has been turned into an anime television series that was produced by Xebec and ran for a total of 26 episodes in Japan before it was cancelled. On the evening of April 27, 2009, the series made its debut on television in North America for the first time on the Funimation Channel. In addition to these, there are two drama CDs, two light novels, and a video game for the PlayStation 2 based on the series.
