The South Korean television drama series Athena: Goddess of War is an espionage television drama that debuted on SBS in 2010 and is a spin-off of the series Iris, which aired in 2009. Both this show and its predecessor, which also had a budget of 20 billion won, are easily among the most expensive Korean dramas that have ever been made. After filming in a variety of countries outside of South Korea, including Italy, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States, the series made its debut in December of 2010, with Jung Woo-sung, Cha Seung-won, Soo Ae, and Lee Ji-ah in the starring roles. Due to the fact that this series takes place in the same world as its forerunner, certain characters from Iris will be able to play similar roles throughout the narrative of this new series.
