For the 1965–1966 television season, NBC aired Convoy, a 13-episode American wartime television series. The series starred John Gavin as Commander Dan Talbot of the US Navy destroyer escort "DD181" and John Larch as civilian merchant Captain Ben Foster of the cargo ship "Flagship," both of whom were involved in the convoy ships and their escorts that helped to transport food, supplies, and war materials across the Atlantic during the Battle of the Atlantic. Actors James T. Callahan, who played Lieutenant O'Connell on ABC's Wendy and Me sitcom, and Linden Chiles both appeared in the series. It featured Dennis Hopper, Jack Palance and Barbara Rush alongside James Doohan, Leslie Nielsen, Horst Ebersberg, Jeremy Slate, and Harold Gould. Stock footage rendered color a non-starter for Convoy, one of NBC's final black-and-white shows. After other stations declined to clear the show, Nielsen ratings didn't move it out of the bottom ten. The first episode aired on September 17th, 1965, and the final one was broadcast on December 10th, 1965.
