Thirty years ago, a strange event called a "spacequake" destroyed the center of Eurasia and killed at least 150 million people. Since then, smaller spacequakes have happened from time to time. Shido Itsuka, a seemingly normal high school student, meets a mysterious girl at the epicenter of a spacequake. She turns out to be one of the "Spirits" that cause spacequakes when they show themselves in the world. He is asked to use his mysterious ability to seal the Spirits' powers and stop them from being a threat to people. But there is a catch: for a Spirit's power to be sealed, he must make her love him and kiss him.
